Geography

       Santiago is located in the Metropolitan Region of the Republic of Chile in the South American continent, Bounded on the north and west by the Region of Valparaiso, on the south Region Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins and east Argentina.

With an area of ​​15,403.2 km ², is the smallest of all regions but is also the most populous, with an estimated population in 2009 of 7,003,122 inhabitants. The region comprises the provinces of Chacabuco, Cordillera, Maipo, Melipilla, Santiago and Talagante, being the regional capital city of Santiago de Chile.

The Metropolitan Region has several special features of the host country's capital, within which up to 20,091 was to be the only region that was not called by a Roman numeral (although it accounted for XIII and some opportunities was called as the Thirteenth Region). It is also the only region of the country which has no direct access to the Pacific Ocean.


 Santiago is part of the territory of 37 communities of which 26 are located entirely within the city and 11 radio somewhere outside.
